The Christian

Honor and happiness unite
To make the Christian's name a praise;
How fair the scene, how clear the light,
That fills the remnant of His days!
A kingly character He bears,
No change His priestly office knows;
Unfading is the crown He wears,
His joys can never reach a close.
Adorn'd with glory from on high,
Salvation shines upon His face;
His robe is of the ethereal dye,
His steps are dignity and grace.
Inferior honors He disdains,
Nor stoops to take applause from earth;
The King of kings Himself maintains
The expenses of His heavenly birth.
The noblest creature seen below,
Ordain'd to fill a throne above;
God gives him all He can bestow,
His kingdom of eternal love!
My soul is ravished at the thought!
Methinks from earth I see Him rise!
Angels congratulate His lot,
And shout Him welcome to the skies.

Jesus Our Life

“I am, saith Christ our glorious head,
(May we attention give)
The resurrection of the dead,
The life of all that live.
By faith in me, the soul receives
New life, though dead before;
And he that in my name believes,
Shall live, to die no more.
The sinner, sleeping in his grave,
Shall at my voice awake;
And when I once begin to save,
My work I ne’er forsake.”
Fulfill thy promise, gracious Lord,
On us assembled here,
Put forth thy Spirit with the word,
And cause the dead to hear.
Preserve the pow’r of faith alive,
In those who love thy name;
For sin and Satan daily strive
To quench the sacred flame.
Thy pow’r and mercy first prevailed
From death to set us free;
And often since our life had failed,
If not renewed by thee.
To thee we look, to thee we bow;
To thee, for help, we call;
Our life and resurrection thou,
Our hope, our joy, our all.

Enerġija għall-Ġid jew Ħsara

“Smajtu illi ngħad lill-antiki, ‘Tikkommettix omiċidju,’ u ‘Kull min jikkommetti omiċidju jkun ħaqqu l-ġudizzju.’ Imma jien ngħidilkom, kull min jirrabja ma’ ħuh ikun ħaqqu l-ġudizzju. Jerġa’, kull min jgħid lil ħuh, ‘Raka,’ ikun suġġett għas-Sanedrin; u kull min jgħid, ‘Ja iblah!’ ikun ħaqqu jmur fl-Infern tan-nar” (Mattew 5:20-21).
Meta l-korla fija tidher fl-aħjar tagħha, tiżvelali l-agħar fil-karattru tiegħi. Il-korla, bestja inkontrollabbli, tnissel rimors fil-qalb, diskordja fid-dar, qrusa fil-komunità u konfużjoni fl-istat.
Biss meta tiġi manipulata biex tikkonfronta problemi f’relazzjoni, tista’ tkun forza kostruttiva. Hi dajnamajt: faċilment tkun abbużata mid-delinkwenti għat-tkissir; f’xi każijiet tista’ tkun maniġġjata għall-ġid. Toffri varjetà wiesa’ ta’ possibbiltajiet. Toħloq kaos, imma tagħtik ukoll id-dinamika biex tinawgura mogħdijiet li altrimenti jibqgħu magħluqa. Tipprovdi s-saħħa biex tneħħi tfixkil, xkiel u imbarazz morali.

Għajnuna Pronta

“Alla hu l-kenn u l-qawwa tagħna, għajnuna pronta dejjem fid-dwejjaq. Għalhekk ma nibżgħux imqar jekk l-art titriegħed u l-muntanji jiġġarrfu f’nofs il-baħar, u l-ilmijiet tiegħu jgħajtu u jirgħaw, u l-muntanji jitheżżu bit-tqanqil tagħhom. Hemm xmara li n-nixxigħat tagħha jferrħu l-belt t’Alla, l-għamara qaddisa tal-Ogħla. Alla qiegħed f’nofsha; hi ma titħarrikx. Alla jgħinna, mit-tbexbix tal-jum. Il-ġnus triegħdu, is-saltniet iġġarrfu; hu semma’ leħnu u l-art iddewbet. Il-Mulej tal-eżerċti magħna; Alla ta’ Ġakobb hu l-fortizza tagħna” (Salmi 46:1-7).
Għajnuna li mhix preżenti meta għandna bżonnha ma tiswa kważi xejn. L-ankra li titħalla fuq l-art tkun bla fejda għall-baħrin f’nofs il-maltempata. Tabib li ma ssibux meta tinsab marid ma jaġevolak xejn. Fost id-diversi għajnuniet tal-art, ftit huma pronti: ġeneralment iddum biex tiksibhom u tapprofitta minnhom.
Xi ngħidu, però, dwar Alla tagħna? Hu preżenti kull meta nfittxuh, preżenti meta għandna bżonnu, u preżenti meta nkunu gawde…
